Manchester entertainment
Manchester entertainment is among the finest in Europe. From the city that gave us Oasis, Coronation Street, the Hacienda, not to mention north west dining and shopping hub the Trafford Centre, the desire to provide visitors and residents with things to do never ceases.
Manchester Music
Manchester music is famous around the world and the city`s reputation for churning out top musical stars is unrivalled. Among the bands to emerge from the Manchester music scene are Joy Division, the Smiths, Oasis and the Ting Tings.
It isn`t just homegrown talent that contributes to the city`s musical landscape. Manchester music venues such as the Apollo, the Manchester Evening News Arena and the Oxford Road-based Academy (which houses three venues and a club) regularly play host to major touring bands, meaning that Manchester music fans have been treated to gigs by some of the biggest names on the planet.
Manchester Bars
Manchester bars are numerous and come in all shapes and sizes. From trendy hangouts in the Northern Quarter to the huge watering holes of Deansgate, Manchester bars provide something for everyone.
Almost every city lays claim to having the highest number of bars per resident, or square foot, but with Manchester bars one feels that this could really be the case, if only because of the sheer number of drinking establishments in Manchester. Bars including Kro and Odder line the city`s student thoroughfare Oxford Road, while the tightly packed streets of the city centre are dotted with dozens of historic Manchester bars and pubs.
Manchester Nightclubs
Manchester nightclubs have a worldwide reputation for quality rivalled only by other clubbing capitals such as Berlin and New York.
Manchester nightclubs have come a long way since the days when the Hacienda and the Boardwalk dominated the Manchester nightclubs scene. The diversification in the city`s clubbing scene has seen hundreds of new nights open up around the city, each offering something different, from big room house to indie thrills and spills.
Manchester nightclubs have won awards from a range of top dance music authorities. Sankeys regularly features in DJ magazine`s list of the world`s best clubs, while newer nights such as Clique have been honoured by Mixmag for their commitment to advancing the Manchester nightclubs scene.
Manchester Restaurants
Manchester restaurants are building a reputation for quality that stands out from other places in the North West. From the classic pub-fayre-cooked-with-flair of the Angel, to the amazing curry dishes served up by the likes of Shimla Pinks and Akbar`s, Manchester restaurants are nothing if not varied.
Manchester restaurants were dealt a blow when the city lost its only Michelin Star, but chefs including Raymond Blanc rushed to the defence of Manchester restaurants, blaming the city`s slow culinary progress on a mixture of expensive rents and the poor locations chosen by some Manchester restaurants.
